My project is on living in transit and how people who do, have routines and structure even when they are in unfamiliar surroundings. If you have the time i was wondering if you could answer a few questions? if you have any routines when you get up? for example: wash - put watch on - shave e.t.c. that kinda thing. and same thing for when you get seated and settled on a plane. lap top? shoes? and finally your opinion on this subject, do you feel it keeps you on track, and why? and do you feel that routines are mandatory? could you do things in a different order and have same kind of day? in a productive and objective sense? I would really appreciate it if you could find the time in your no doubt busy schedule to respond, it would be much valued. Thanks Milly
Hi Milly,
Let's see...
When I am traveling the routine is dictated by the situation.
I tend to wake up around 8, look for a place for breakfast and then go ahed with the day.
It's true that human nature, mine too, tends to create a frame in which to feel more comfortable
Plane: shoes off if long trip, laptop but not too much, uncomfortable. A book, some wine and movies.
No, it does not keep me on track.
I am lost when I stay too long in one place and feel very balanced on the road.
This is probably due to the fact that when travellng I am more aware of life, need to be more attentive, and the sense of control is greater.
At home it's so easy to slip into external routine, which means internal disorder.
Routines are negative, I guess in most cases.
"could you do things in a different order and have same kind of day?"
I guess so. Productivity is not linked to quantity only, but quality too. So, if you are free to do something when you prefer, it's more effective.
Having said that I prefer to perform tasks which need concentration early in the morning, while leaving for the late afternoon the more "artistic" ones.
bye
Luca

Good questions adn better answers!
You know, routine and freedom are pretty linked. You can enjoy freedom only if you cannot taste more routine... and the opposite of course.
On the plane: beer for a short trip, whisky/coke for a long travel.
